The Kentucky Education Fund for
Handicapped Children, Inc.
Dear friends of the Handicapped in Kentucky,
Thank you for your recent inquiry regarding the Kentucky Education Fund for Handicapped Children, Inc. of which I am Board Chairman. I hope the following information will be helpful to you, and will answer most of your immediate questions.
We are a non-profit “Corporation” set up for the following purpose: “to provide financial assistance to those families with handicapped family members living in Kentucky for the costs associated with educating and training their physically and/or mentally handicapped children. In addition, the purpose of the Corporation is to assist facilities and institutions located in Kentucky to provide facilities, equipment, and trained persons which are necessary to assist these facilities and institutions in the education, therapy and training of the handicapped.”
In furtherance of this stated purpose we receive gifts and donations from persons and organizations who wish to support our mission, and we invite and approve grant requests to this end. Our funds are directed to the support these persons in the following ways.
First, we approve “scholarships and other financial assistance to Qualified Candidates to supplement or completely provide for the costs of tuition, equipment, special training, counseling, therapy, books, and any such training, counseling or education as may be necessary for any family member of a Qualified Candidate.”
Secondly, we approve “grants to Qualified Facilities and institutions who provide training, therapy and/or education for the handicapped, for the purchase of equipment, for structural changes in the facility or institution, or to hire and/or maintain personnel who are qualified to educate and train the handicapped.”
Our private foundation is a tax exempt organization set up pursuant to the Internal Revenue Code Section 501(c)(3). (Our Tax ID number is 61-1217066.) Since the purpose and programs of Stewart Home School fall within the parameters of the purpose of our Foundation you may be assured the School, and its residents, are primary candidates for grants from our available funds.
Please feel free to write or call me at the address and phone numbers given below at any time. I would be most pleased to assist you any way I can.
Sincerely,
Charles D. Ellestad, President
The Kentucky Education Fund for Handicapped Children, Inc.
